Homer Joe Sparkman October 19, 1928 - February 8, 2016 Homer Joe Sparkman, 87, passed away at his home in Stephenville surrounded by his family on Monday, February 8, 2016. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 11th at Desdemona Cemetery in Desdemona, with Zac Harrel officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Homer Joe was born on October 19, 1928 in Desdemona, Texas to the late Jessie Joe and Evah Abernathy Sparkman. He attended Desdemona High School where he met and married his one and only love, Johnnie Ruth Dixon on November 24, 1947. He then moved to Freer, Texas for a brief time before moving to Stephenville, and calling it home. He owned and drove trucks before he purchased and ran Skelly's Truck Stop in Stephenville, in which he ran for several years. He then worked for AMPI until his retirement. Homer also spent time racing pigeons and greyhounds. Homer Joe is survived by his daughter, Joanna Graves; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Selena Sparkman; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Brent Fanning; daughter and son-in-law, Penny and George Melton; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Homer was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie on December 12, 2002; daughter, Paula Renee Carter Sparkman; grandson, Michael (Butch) Ray Carter; and son-in-law, Donald Ray Graves.
