Helen Battle Grumbles

Helen Beatrice Battle Grumbles passed away in Stephenville, Texas on January 23, 2015 at the age of 91. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 31, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Chapel in Alba, Texas. Timothy Ware, Helen's grandson-in-law, will officiate. Services are under direction of Stephenville Funeral Home. Helen and her twin sister, Hazel, were born in 1923 in Roganville, Texas to James B. and Sallie Battle. Helen was an active member of the First Baptist Church of College Station, Texas for 60 years. She particularly enjoyed serving in vacation Bible school and ‘Discovery' (an organization for the wives of international students at Texas A & M University). She was a long time Girl Scout leader, and loved camping and bird watching. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Leland Grumbles, three sisters, and one brother. Helen is survived by two daughters, Paula Hewes and husband, Cecil, of Fort Worth, and Jane Dameron and husband, Jake, of Bluff Dale; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Grumbles family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Gideons International.
