Helen (Dow) Collins

Helen Dow Collins, 68, of Stephenville, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Werth Mays officiating. Interment will follow at West End Cemetery in Stephenville. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm before the service. Helen was born on November 28, 1948 in Grant Town, between Thurber and Mingus, to the late John and Freda Basil Dow. She married the love of her life, Larry Collins on April 10, 1970 in Mingus and together they raised a daughter. Helen graduated from Tarleton State earning a Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Business. She worked for H&R Block for many years and as a volunteer helping others do their taxes. Helen has resided in Stephenville for the past 40 years and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Stephenville and has recently been attending the Cowboy Church of Erath County. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 48 and a half years, Larry Collins of Stephenville; daughter, Leslie Tyson and husband John Tyson, Jr. of Richardson; grandsons, Jace and Joshua Tyson of Richardson; sisters, Anne Cook of Selden, and Jeanne Mowery and husband Dennis of Portland, OR; brothers, Steve Dow, and Johnny Dow both of Ft. Worth; two very special friends, Sandra Jokel and Diane Hord; the best neighbors, Janene & Daniel Wayne; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of loving friends. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Dow. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity, or to the Cowboy Church of Erath County.
