Georgia Lucille Stephen, 90, of Strawn died Tuesday, September 01, 2009 in Stephenville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 4th at the Strawn First United Methodist Church with Reverend Barry Holmes officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Marion Cemetery in Strawn. Ms. Stephen's body will lie in state at Stephenville Funeral Home on Wednesday, and moved to the family home in Strawn (corner of Stuart and Central) Thursday morning where she will lie in state until services on Friday. Georgia Lucille Stephen was born October 14, 1918 at her grandparents home in Strawn, Texas. She is the daughter of William Louis and Gladys Lucille Crouch Stephen. Her mother died three days later of Spanish influenza. She and her brother Paul were raised in the home of their grandparents, John Surdon and Minnie Lamar Crouch in Strawn. Georgia attended Hockaday School in Dallas, and Southern Methodist University. She taught school in Strawn, Malakoff, and Odessa. She completed her career, retiring in 1980 after 21 years at Odessa High School. "Gag" was a loving aunt to 6 nephews and nieces, Chris Stephen and wife Lupe of Stephenville, Jennifer Elmore of Strawn, Paul Stephen and wife Judy of Santa Anna, Texas, Joel Stephen of Strawn, Julianne Stephen of Abilene, Georgia Braun and husband Jeff of Strawn; 19 great nephews and nieces; and 21 great great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Lamar Stephen and his wife Julia Rosemond Buchanan Stephen; and a cousin, Barbara Smiley.
