Gaynell Truss McCormick
Gaynell Truss McCormick went to be with her Lord on January 17, 2025, surrounded by her three daughters.
Gay was born July 31, 1931, to Abbie Lee and William (Bud) Truss in Gatesville, Texas. Gay was a member of the Church of Christ. During her lifetime, Gay worked as a waitress, plastics factory associate, telephone operator, hotel desk clerk, Sante Fe Railroad call clerk, joint owner and chief cook at their BBQ restaurant in Slaton, and Walmart associate, but mostly as a wife, Mother, and Grandmother.
While waitressing, Gay met the love of her life, Johnnie Mack McCormick. Together they had four children and an array of adventures. While raising their children, they resided in Slaton, TX, where they owned a service station and a BBQ and Steak house. After their retirement, they moved to Stephenville, TX where Gay began working full-time at Wal-Mart until her second retirement at 88. Gay’s hobbies included crocheting, cooking, cleaning, shoes, sewing, word finds, caring for her dog Priss, Facebook, and spending time with her family. Her passion for crocheting is hanging in many homes across the U.S. Anyone who knew Gay knew she loved nothing more than to crochet for her loved ones. Gay was a pillar of every community she resided in. She was a true character and rarely met a stranger. She was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Gay was preceded in death by her parents, sister Geneva Painter, two brothers, William Truss and Tom Truss; husband John Mack McCormick; one son, Johnny Ray McCormick; and one great-great-grandson, Levi Hayes Morrison.
Survivors include her three daughters, Geneva Lynne Hamilton and spouse, Rickey of Stephenville, TX; Melba Ann Montague, and spouse, Ray of Clovis, NM; Connie Gay McCormick of Stephenville, TX; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
