Frances Hammit, 100, of Stephenville, died Monday, August 26, 2013 in Stephenville. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 31st at Lingleville East End Cemetery, with Ed Dittfurth officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Stephenville Funeral Home Frances was born on October 25, 1912 in Lockney, Texas to the late John Vincent and Mary Anna Parsons Gilly. She married Oscar Virgil Hammit on February 26, 1929 in Silverton, Texas. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1976. Frances spent several years of her life as Postmistress of the Duro, New Mexico Post Office. She was a homemaker, a rancher's wife, and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.. Frances was a member of the Garden Clubs in both Lingleville and Stephenville. She has lived several years in Erath County. Survivors include her sons, Wayne and wife Doris Hammit of Stephenville, Freddy and wife Audean Hammit of Granbury, and Melvin Hammit of Stephenville; brother, Carl Lee Gilly of Floydada; grandchildren, Kristen Hammit, Stephen Hammit, Josh Hammit, Cyndi Bauerle, Ron Hammit, Kerry Hammit, Ann Reyes, Randy Hise, Shelli McKee, Jana Brendle, Lisa Meires, Sharon Jackson, and Gregg Hammit; several great and great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Francis was preceded in death by a daughter, Quida Hise.
