Eunice Kay Hamrick
Tunie, as many will know her, passed away on January 10th 2025 at 74 years of age in the loving arms of her son and daughter. Eunice was born on May 15th 1950 in Crosbyton, Texas. She was the first daughter of four children born to Dr. Joe Alexander and his wife Janie. They lived in Spur, Texas until planting a new family home in Abilene.
Eunice spent time at Cisco College and McMurray University but her true passion was animals. Her love of horses resulted in her spending many years in the rodeo arena, which led to her prestigious recognition as Miss Rodeo Texas in 1970. In 1973, she married Stephen Hamrick and they lived happily in Denver City. Eunice worked hard for over 20 years in the school district as an Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent. Although she loved her job and spoke fondly of her years in education, she would say her greatest blessings were her daughter Stephanie and son Cody. They spent years as a family attending rodeos and enjoying many summers in the mountains of Colorado making memories they still cherish today.
Her kind nature and motherly instincts went far beyond her own children as she selflessly served as a mother figure to many. She enjoyed gathering with family and friends around the dinner table and late-night conversations with those closest to her. Whether chatting with Cody (and trying to keep him calm) during the Cowboys games, keeping Stephanie company on her way home from work, or just being a comforting presence to friends and family, Eunice had more love in her heart than most. Somehow, she made room for even more love with the births of her beloved grandchildren Cash (7), Tate (6), Dottie (4) and Adilynn (6). She loved being able to watch her grandchildren as they rode bikes, fished and roasted marshmallows around the campfire in Fun Valley, Colorado – carrying on a tradition that began when she was a kid.
More recently, Mimi, as her grandchildren knew her, enjoyed celebrating Cody and Stephanie’s 40th birthday with the whole family in Mexico and making forever memories taking her grandchildren to Disney World, which was a long-time dream. Those that knew her speak to her open door, and loving embrace. Her laughter was infectious and stories were always entertaining and plentiful.
Eunice is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Joe and Janie Alexander. Her Brother Dan, Sister Besty. Eunice is survived by her oldest brother Joe Alexander, along with his wife, Donnalynn and their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her dearest nephew Alex who she cared deeply for; Son - Cody and wife Heather, along with their children Cash, Tate and Dottie Gene Hamrick and daughter- Stephanie, husband Tim, and their daughter Adilynn Hohertz. If she was still here with us today, she would leave you with the words of George Straight, “I ain’t here for a long time, I'm here for a good time.”
