Estle Mae (Dixon) Wells was born on January 27, 1930, in Santa Anna, Texas. As the youngest of six children born in the Great Depression, Estle learned at an early age the values of frugality, tenacity, and hard work. She carried these values throughout her entire life. Anyone stopping by Estle’s home might find her clearing out a fence line, feeding her cows, mowing on her tractor, or making one of her famous carrot cakes from scratch. Estle was a true Texan who embraced the cowgirl way of life all of her 94.5 years. She was an avid horse and cattle rancher and raised many fine calves. Her main source of communication to the world was her green rotary phone hanging on the wall in her kitchen. She never used or owned a computer, never used a cell phone, but was perfectly content living a simpler life. To many she was known as Estle or Mrs. Wells, but she was especially known as “Grammy" to her family. Grammy went home to Jesus November 3, 2024. In loving memory and with the saving grace that comes from Christ, we will all miss her.
Estle Wells is survived by her son Bill Wells and wife Sheryl Wells of Stephenville, Texas, son Jerry Wells and wife Connie Wells of Frost, Texas along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers and sisters.
