Elmer Gene Butler, 88, passed away on October 25, 2023, at home. He was born on April 6, 1935, to Charlie Butler and Beatrice ‘Babe’ (Moon) Butler. Elmer, better known as Gene, graduated from Lingleville High School then went on and served in the United States Army for a couple of years. Afterwards, he went on to college for real estate and worked for many years as a realtor as well as in concrete business. Gene was a member of Operative Plasterers and Cement Mason’s International Association. Gene raised greyhounds and lived a very exciting life racing them in Florida, Texas, Kansas, and West Virginia.
Gene is survived by his wife, Sharon, his grandchildren; Kristin Butler of Stephenville, and Rachel (Butler) Rothchild of Austin, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Don Butler, Cobb Butler, and VS Butler, and his sister; Joan (Butler) Howard, a son; Barry Butler, as well as a daughter; Gina Butler.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Gene’s honor to SPCA Geyhound Adoption.
