Doris Janelle Burkeen

Doris Janelle Burkeen, 83, of Stephenville passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012. Services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 1:30 PM at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with the burial following in Hazel Dell Cemetery in Comanche County. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Janelle was born on December 30, 1928 in Putnam, Texas to the late Herman and Rubye (Johnson) Roberson. She married Wayne Garner in 1946 and from that 27 year union came Patricia, Nellwyn and Debra Jo. On February 28, 1980, Janelle married William (Bill) Burkeen in Stephenville and joined his family of daughters, Grace, Barbara, Sue and Sharla. Bill preceded her in death on December 6, 2007. Janelle worked and retired from TXU and was a resident of Erath County for over 65 years. She was a very kind and loving person. Her good piece of advice was "Smile and the world smiles with you". Janelle enjoyed her time with her family and wherever she was throughout her life her doors were open to family, friends and her community. Janelle is survived by daughters, Patricia Little of Stephenville, Nellwyn Wong of Bedford, Debra Garner of Stephenville and step-daughters, Barbara Duncan of Stephenville, Sue Brewer of Dallas, Sharla Burkeen of Houston; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
