Donald Dale Smart, 80, of Stephenville, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Derrel Thompson officiating followed by a reception at the Stephenville Funeral Home Family Center. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of choice. Don was born January 5, 1931 in Port, Oklahoma the son of Jake and Evelyn Smart. He graduated from Edmond High School in Edmond, OK. After graduation he enlisted in the Air force Reserve and served in Korea. He married Clara Faye Woodside in October 1953. He later graduated from Oklahoma University with Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation he went to work for General Dynamics in Fort Worth. He moved his family just south of Stephenville in 1971 and began raising cattle and baling hay while still working for General Dynamics. Retiring in 1996 after 40 years he and wife Clara were able to travel, making trips to England, France, Germany and Italy. Don also began writing with articles published in many Magazines and co-authoring a book "Comanche Captive, The Story of Juana Cavasos:" Most recently he was Chairman for the Texas States Soil and Water Conservation Board. He will truly be missed. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Clara; sons, Steve Smart and wife Susan, and Ron Smart; daughter, Cindy Scheick and husband Jeff; grandsons, Burton and Corey Smart; granddaughters, Tara Smart, Cassandra and Alexandra Scheick.
