Don was a devoted volunteer for Hope Center in Stephenville; a task that he loved and that brought him much satisfaction. He divided his time between the Hope Center and his cabin on Lake Palo Pinto which he built by himself. Don went to the lake as often as he could, calling it "his sanctuary." Don was a private, intelligent person and a man of many skills. His many nieces and nephews loved him, looked up to him and knew he could always be counted on when needed. Don was born in Snyder, Texas on December 22, 1931, into two ranching families. He grew up in Snyder and graduated from Snyder High School in 1950. Don then attended Tarleton State and Texas Tech University before entering the Army in 1952, serving in the Korean War. While in the Army, Don served in the infantry, artillery, military intelligence and completed his military service as a medical corpsman at the rank of sergeant. After his military service Don returned to college, graduating from Texas Tech University. Don was on the Texas Tech rodeo team and livestock judging team. Later, Don obtained a graduate degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. He was an entomologist and livestock disease inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture for several years. Don went on to be a science teacher in San Antonio and retired from teaching while employed at Weatherford High School in 1988. Donald had made his home in Stephenville since 1975 where he helped care for his parents, Clyde and Winifred Boren. Don began his volunteer work at the Stephenville Hope Center in 1991 and was a valued member of their staff. Don was also a member of First Baptist Church and the American Legion. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde M. and Winifred Boren; two brothers, Clyde W. Boren and Fred Boren. Don is survived by a brother, Charlie Boren of Austin; nephews Michael and Cindy Boren of Stephenville and their sons Reese and Charlie; Bill and Carol Boren of Denton; and nieces Barbara Wells of Burleson and her children Justin and Meredith, Alice and Van Dardis of Stephenville and Alice's daughter and husband Amy and Robert Patterson of Rio Vista, and Charlsa and Mark Bentley of Austin. Don also had several great nieces and nephews, Tyler, Abby, Ryan, and Libby Patterson; and a great, great, great niece, Ellie Patterson. In lieu of flowers, the Boren family request expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to H.O.P.E., P. O. Box 1243, Stephenville, Texas 76401
