Dewey Eugene Edwards, 86, of Stephenville, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at the Graham Street Church of Christ in Stephenville. Interment will follow at West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday at Stephenville Funeral Home. D.E. was born on September 24, 1922 in Erath County to the late Frank and Mae Derrick Edwards. He graduated from Alexander High School, John Tarleton Agricultural College, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech and also attended Howard Payne College. He served one year in the C.C.C. On October 17, 1942 D.E. volunteered and served in the U.S. Navy aboard a submarine in the Pacific during WWII. On January 30, 1944, during the war, he married Addie Zell Bills and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last month. After graduating from A&M in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture, he moved to Lohn, Texas and taught Ag for 8 years before going into the administration field serving as Superintendant in Lohn. He then moved to Walnut Springs in 1960 and served as School Superintendant for 19 years. D.E. retired to his farm in Erath County in 1979 and spent his time farming and ranching. D.E. served as a Deacon and Elder at the Church of Christ at Lohn and Walnut Springs and was a member of the Graham Street Church of Christ in Stephenville. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Addie Zell Edwards of Stephenville; daughter, Cynthia Jean Price of Hillsboro; son, Donnie A. (Bim) and wife Donna Edwards of Walnut Springs, Dr. Ricky Dale Edwards and wife Dr. Barbara Estement of Cresson, and Dewey Dean and wife Dr. Cindy Edwards of Stephenville; brother, Buford N. Edwards of Ft. Worth; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dale Edwards and Oliver Glenn Edwards.
