Delma Jean (Donawho) Thornton

Delma Jean Donawho Thornton, 89 (yrs.) passed from this life Thursday, November 16, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2023, at Stephenville Funeral Home with Frank Brisco officiating.  Burial will follow at Erath Garden of Memory.  Visitation with the Thornton family will begin at 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM (one hour prior to services).

Delma was born in Gorman, Texas, November 7, 1934, to John and Mary Donawho of Moran, Texas.  She attended school in Moran and later became a Registered Nurse at Hendricks Memorial Hospital in Abilene, Texas.

She married Robert Lowell Thornton (Bob) September 7, 1956, her husband for the last 66 years.  She was a homemaker, who loved gardening, quilting, painting, and needlework.

Delma was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Stephenville since moving here in 2005. Prior to that move, she attended services at Tolar Church of Christ while residing in Granbury.

Preceded in death by her Husband, Robert Lowell Thornton; Parents, John and Mary Donawho; Brother, Herman Donawho and wife Florence of Breckenridge; Sister, Winnie Singleton and husband Harld of Breckenridge; Sister, Elsie Gleaves and husband Alton Gleave of Bowie; Brother-in-law Gary Adams of Rising Star; Two Nephews, J. Harold Singleton, Jr. of Breckenridge and Randall Gleaves of Alaska.

Delma is survived by her daughter, Sharon Palmer Trahan and husband Rick Trahan of Cisco, Texas: son, Robert Paul Thornton and wife Tammy Charbonneau of Lakehills, Texas; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. One sister, Johnnie Adams of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; One sister-in-law’s and numerous nieces and nephews.
