Clark P. Chandler died on Saturday, February 9th, 2013. There will be a private graveside service at the West End Cemetery in Stephenville, Texas on February 12th at 3:00 p.m. The Reverend Rector Chuck Treadwell and Rector Josephine Robertson of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Waco, Texas will be officiating. Clark was born in Stephenville, Texas on February, 5th, 1923, son of the late Earl Talmage Chandler and Esther Clark Chandler. Clark, before his death, was the sole remaining grandchild of Randolph Clark, the co-founder of Texas Christian University. He attended Stephenville public schools, Tarleton State University, and the University of Texas. During World War II he served in the Navy as a naval aviator, flying Corsairs with fighter squadron VF-32 aboard the carrier USS Cabot, CVL-28, in the Pacifc/China-Burma/India theaters. Clark was also recalled to active stateside duty during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Johnnie Nell Fenner of Stephenville, Texas on June 16th, 1952, in Mexico City, D.F. in the Mesias Methodist Church by the Reverend Alejandro Ruis of Southern Methodist University. An early career in oil/gas operations and agri-business in both New Mexico, West Texas, and Central Texas was followed by 25 years in the insurance business. After a decade as a property/casualty agency owner, Clark was associated with National Lloyds Insurance Company in Waco until his retirement in 1998. Clark was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife Johnnie Fenner Chandler of Waco; daughter, Elizabeth Talmage Chandler of Sunnyvale, California; and son, Benjamin Tirey Chandler and his wife Cheryl of Longview, Texas. He is also survived by four grandchildren-- Nathan Chandler and his wife, Whitney, of Arlington, Texas; Jessie Ward and her husband, Marc, of Fayettville, Arkansas; Allison and Cole Chandler of Katy, Texas--and one great granddaughter, Hallie Chandler. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Anise Moon and her husband Johnny of Mansfield, Texas, a niece, Letatia, a grandniece, Carson, and numerous paternal cousins, most importantly Fred Chandler of Houston, Texas.
