Carol Louise Wood

Carol Louise Wood, 84, was called home by our Lord May 30, 2013. Cherished wife, mother and grandmother, she blessed our lives forever with her unbounded love. Celebration of Life: Monday, June 3rd at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Stephenville, TX. Visitation will be Sunday 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Graveside service at DFW National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 4th at 2:30 p.m. Born April 24, 1929 to Harry and Ura Saxton of Borger, Texas, Carol called herself a "Panhandle girl" and graduated from Borger High School where she played in the band. While employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. she met the love of her life, Charles R. Wood, and they were married on June 15, 1952. After several geographic moves and the births of their three children, they settled in Fort Worth, Texas and were charter members of Western Hills Baptist Church ("WHBC"). Carol served as the WHBC Secretary for 20 years which she clearly viewed as a ministry, not a mere occupation. She was instrumental in creating the first preschool ministry, participated in the Women's Missionary Union, served as director of the Girls' Auxiliary and helped create the Deacon Council's family ministry. Carol and Charles enjoyed many mission trips with their WHBC friends and after retirement traveled extensively. Throughout her life, Carol worked hard to meet other people's needs where she saw them and to serve her Lord. Retirement prompted a final geographic move for Charles and Carol from Ft. Worth to their beloved 5C Ranch in Stephenville where they were active members of First Baptist Church Stephenville. They hosted friends and family at the 5c Ranch and each grandchild holds precious memories of staying at the ranch with grandma. Carol relished time with her family, time outdoors at the ranch and exemplified a Christian wife and mother. The family appreciates the loving care Carol received from Open Arms Private Care, Solaris Hospice, and Dr. Jeff Moore. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ura Saxton. Survivors: Loving husband of 60 years, Charles R. Wood. Three Children Caron (Wood) Montgomery and husband Robert of Arlington, Texas, Carla (Wood) Howard and husband Steve of Plano, Texas, Cal R. Wood and wife Tammy of Aledo, Texas. Five granddaughters Leigh Montgomery, Caroline Montgomery, Kelsey Howard, Dylan Howard, and Taylor Wood.
