Brooks Carpenter

Brooks Carpenter, 80, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, in Fort Worth. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the Oakdale United Methodist Church 2675 Overhill Dr. Interment will follow at the Lower Greens Creek Cemetery in Erath County. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at the Stephenville Funeral Home. Brooks "PaDad" Carpenter was born Dec. 19, 1927 in Erath County to E.A. "Fritzs" Carpenter and Uretha Smith Carpenter. Brooks was first and foremost a family man. He was a lifelong resident of Erath County. In 1951 Brooks started Carpenter Garage and Wrecker Service. In 1958 he added milk hauling to his business. As a fifth generation farmer, he farmed in the same area of Erath County where he was born until his death. The family remembers fondly a kind and loving man of great moral character that was a foundation and rock for his immediate and extended family. The pride and joy of his life was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The legacy of his life will live on through them. Brooks an active member of the Oakdale United Methodist Church where he served the Lord faithfully for many years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pearl Carpenter; three sons, Jerry Carpenter and wife, Joyce; Randall Carpenter and wife, Isla; Dale Carpenter and wife, Pam all of Stephenville; one daughter, Janet Hill and husband, Duane of Beaumont; He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jason Carpenter and wife, Nicci; Heather Osman and husband Scott; Jeana Carpenter; Donald Carpenter and wife, Jenn; Randy Carpenter and wife, Britney; Aaron Carpenter and wife, Amanda; Jerrod Hill and wife Meredith; Brent Hill; Crystal Hill and eleven great-grandchildren, Jordan Carpenter; Madison Carpenter; Kenton Parish; Gavyn Carpenter; Kendall Osman; Marley Carpenter; Carly Osman; Jacy Carpenter; Cole Carpenter; Colton Hill and Emma Carpenter. Brooks is also survived by three sisters Erna Lee Ratliff of Stephenville; Jimmie Dixon of Midland; LouAn Kelley of Burleson; one brother, Ed Carpenter and wife Wanda of Iraan; one uncle, Raymond Carpenter of Stephenville; and many nieces , nephews, cousins and a host of friends He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Rayford Carpenter and a sister, LaVerne Haggard. Memorials: Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Oakdale United Methodist Church building fund.
