Billy Gene Voorhies

Billy Gene (Mr. Bill) Voorhies, 79 of Stephenville passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in Stephenville. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 Thursday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Billy was born on December 7, 1931 in the Bunyan community of Erath County to the late Walter B. and Roxie Deavers Voorhies. He married Reta Carroll on December 28, 1954 in Dublin, Texas and she preceded him in death on October 25, 2004. Billy retired from Goodyear after 32 years of service and then worked at Tarleton for 10 more years before retiring. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Valley Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his son, Billy Scott Voorhies and wife Tina of Stephenville; great-grandchildren, Tyler Blake Voorhies, Elizabeth Voorhies; grandchildren, Tara Cooke, Whitney Cooke, and Afton Cooke; Brother John Voorhies of Andrews; and a sister, Dorothy Brannom of Fort Worth.
