After a brief progression of illnesses following an auto accident, Billy Jack Maupin, age 85, passed away peacefully in Stephenville, Texas on December 8, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born to Elmer & Era Maupin on July 31, 1929 in Gorman, Texas. Though he traveled the world working as an Off Shore Drilling Supervisor for Aramco, the Gorman/Krum/Stephenville areas of Texas were his favorite stomping grounds and where he felt at home. Bill competed in rodeos in his youth, then settled into working in the Oilfield Industry. For over 30 years, he traveled from Iceland to Iran to Saudi Arabia drilling for oil off shore. Bill met his wife, Susan while working in Iran. They were married and moved to Krum, Texas. They shared the births of his first two "Baby Girls", Suzan & Cathrine. Through mutual acquaintances in Gorman, widower, Bill, met the final love of his life, widower Carolyn Tennison. Thanks to Bill's hard work and Carolyn's excellent budgeting skills, they were able to spend over 30 years in retirement. They traveled, watched Blue Grass Bands, attended family events, having a good ole time! Bill loved spending time with his family, but most especially - he treasured his time with Carolyn. They were seldom apart. He loved attending church at Greens Creek Baptist, greeting the congregation, and visiting with his friends and "coffee buddies" at Jake & Dorothy's. Bill will be lovingly remembered for his spirit of adventure, love of family, willingness to help others, his strength & determination along with his quick wit. Bill was the core strength of his family. He leaves a beautiful legacy of perseverance, and love. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. We are left with many precious memories. Bill is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carolyn Maupin; his daughters, Cathrine Huddleston and husband, Joe, Suzan King and husband, James; step-children: Randy Gay and wife, Peggy Sue, Roger Gay and wife, Jamie, Karen Chancey; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and first wife, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Harvey, and his best friends Mel Anders and Jack Mitchell. The family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Green's Creek Baptist Church.
