Arthur Neil Nelson

Arthur Neil Nelson, 78, formerly of Odessa, passed away at the Ballinger nursing home on August 22, 2008. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 24th in Stephenville, Texas. Art was born May 5, 1930 in Ingleside, Texas, to Wilburn & Prescilla Nelson. He was a graduate of Ingleside High School, attended Tarelton College in Stephenville, and a graduate of Texas Tech University as a proud "Red Raider". Art served our country in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Midway. These years were often reflected on as some of the happiest of his life. After the Navy, He began his professional career in 1958 as a (the) high school science teacher in Sudan, Texas. Art joined the El Paso Products Company in 1964 as a research chemist, working twenty years for the company until his retirement in the early 1980's. Art married Marty Arthur on January 29, 1955 and they were together until she passed in 1976. Art & Marty had two children, Sharla & Mike. Art was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marty. Art is survived by his wife Lucy Anne of Ft. Worth, her children Debbie Blevins and husband Mark of Crowley, Susan Blevins and husband Paul of Aston, Oklahoma; Art's children, Mike Nelson and his wife Carla of Odessa and Sharla Ynostrosa and her husband Jimmy of San Angelo, four grand-children, Doug and Scott Nelson of Odessa, and Matthew and Jessica Ynostrosa of San Angelo, three great-grandchildren, sister Carolyn Nelson of Ingleside and brother Earl Nelson of Houston. Special thanks are expressed to the Runnells County Nursing Home in Ballinger and to the Vista Care Hospice of San Angelo for their warm and understanding care for Art. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local Alzheimer's fund.
