Arl D. Jones

Arl D. Jones, 87, formerly of Stephenville, passed away Saturday, June 1,2013 in Weatherford. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Stephenville Funeral Home. Private Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Stephenville. Arl was born on August 15, 1925 in Erath County, TX, to the late Moses N. and Alva A. Monroe Jones. He married Sylvia Lee Lowery on July 15, 1950 in Stephenville. She preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 2009. Arl owned and operated Stephenville Wholesale for 28 years. He also worked for FMC in the Shipping and Drafting departments for 7 years. He was a member of Stephenville First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school to four year olds for 20 years. Arl proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and survived captivity as a P.O.W. Survivors include daughter, Carla Jones of Weatherford, nieces and nephews, many close friends, and little dog, Benny. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harley Levi Jones and Luther Darrell Jones; two sisters, Leona Burleson and Estelene Huckaby. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Library or to the Missions Fund.
