Annie Pipes Tate Burgess, 85, of Georgetown, died Friday, January 27, 2012 in Georgetown. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 30, 2012 at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Pipes and Shawn Montandon officiating. Burial will follow at Huckabay Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 AM to 12:00 Noon, Monday morning at the funeral home Annie Leona Pipes was born on June 26, 1926, at Huckabay, Texas, to parents Willie Brann Pipes, Sr., and Julia Pauline (Duke) Pipes. Annie graduated from Huckabay High School in 1943 as Valedictorian of her class, then continued her education at John Tarleton College at Stephenville until having to return home to help due to her mother's illness. Annie worked jobs in Houston and Ft. Worth prior to her marriage to Joe Boyd Tate on June 12, 1947, at Ft. Worth, Texas. They later moved to San Diego, California, when Joe was called up for active military duty in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. After her husband Joe's passing in 1992, Annie was married to John L. Burgess until his death in 2000. Annie lived in various places in California, also in Reno, Nevada, before returning to Texas, at Georgetown, until her passing. Annie was a member of the Gabriel Oaks Church of Christ in Georgetown. Annie is survived by one son, Joe William Tate and wife Susan, three daughters, Donna Kay (Tate) Bell and husband Keith, Cheryl Ann (Tate) Carrera, and Brenda Kathleen (Tate) Montgomery and husband Dennis; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, James Neal Pipes and Robert Eugene Pipes; two sisters, Dorothy Pauline (Pipes) Hensley and Martha Aline (Pipes) Ogle; other relatives and many friends including her church family at Georgetown. In addition to her parents and husbands, Annie was preceded in death by three brothers, Willie Brann Pipes, Jr., Charles David Pipes, and John Roy Pipes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Light House Hospice, (2913 Williams Dr., Suite #320, Georgetown, TX 78628) or the charity of choice.
