Altena Hancock, "Grandmother" 95, of Stephenville, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 in Stephenville Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ed Dittfurth officiating. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery. Visitation: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday at the Stephenville Funeral Home. Altena was born in Talty, Texas, on June 30, 1913 to Claude and Della DeGaugh. She was one of ten children. On June 29th, 1937 she was married to Wordie N. Hancock. She was married to Mr. Hancock for 50 years, until his passing in the month of May 1985. She gave birth on May 11, 1931 to Clifford Darrel "Bully" Hancock, her only child. She traveled from coast to coast as a cook. Altena made her home in Dallas, Texas, and worked for Harris Methodist Hospital. She retired from Harris Methodist at age of 75. She moved to Stephenville, in 1995 to help continue to raise four generations of grandchildren. She was a member of the Bread of Life Church. Mrs. Hancock was thought of very highly by everyone that was blessed to meet her and enjoyed her good cooking, which she was also well known for. She is preceded in death by, mother, father, all of her siblings, husband, son, grand daughter, Paula Sue Talamantez; and her Great Great Great Granddaughter Tressa Sears. Altena is survived by grandson-in-law, Louis Talamantez; granddaughter, Lois New; great granddaughters, Altena Stroman, Donna Ramos, Paula Sue Brisco, great grandsons, Sam New, Michael Talamantez; great granddaughter-in-law, Rebecca Talamantez; great great granddaughters, Amber Talamantez, Erica Stroman, Desiree Casey, Christine Casey, Jessica Smith, Mykinnley Talamantez, Susie Brisco, Christian Martin; great great grandsons, Robert Stroman, Sean Smith, Nathan Ramos, Morgan New, Gabriel Talamantez; great great great granddaughter, Madyson Davis; great great great grandson, Dacian Martin, Zackery Jones, and Jayden Rodgers. Many other family members unannounced but never the less loved just as much.
