Alta Brown (Shepard), 92, of Stephenville, died Wednesday, September 02, 2015 in Stephenville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 5th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Patrick Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow at Lingleville East End Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Alta ‘Tay' Cook was born on February 25, 1923 in Bryson to the late Albert and Myrtle Hill Cook. She married James Benjamin Brown on June 21, 1939 in Graham. Ben preceded her in death on February 1, 1978. Alta was a homemaker, and spent many years of her life, with her husband in the dairy business. She was a member of the Baptist faith, lived many years in Graham, and most of her life in Erath County. In her early school days, Alta loved playing basketball, and in later years enjoyed going camping. Survivors include her son, Tommy and wife Valera Brown of Stephenville; daughters, Sandra and husband Charles Moody of Jacksboro, and Bennie and husband Gary Henderson of Stephenville; grandchildren, Kenneth Brown, Monty Jackson, Sonya Michelle Meeks, and Deanna Clark; great grandchildren, Bryce, Caden, Kayla, Nicole, Dale, Miranda, Karla, Ricky, and Ben; and four great great grandchildren; and a sister, Bill Mahaney of Graham Besides her parents, and first husband, Ben Brown; Alta was also preceded in death by her second husband, Walter Shepard, eleven brothers and sisters; a grandson Larry; a granddaughter, Beverly; and a great grandson, Wayne.
