Almarene "Rene" Purvis

Services will be held for Almarene "Rene" Purvis Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Stephenville Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be Friday, September 19, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Stephenville Funeral Home. Rene was born in Thorp Spring, TX to the late John Ira Blevins and Virginia Carey Blevins. Rene married James Howard "Dick" Purvis on 10/24/1947, who preceded her in death on 12/2/1989. Dick and Rene operated a dairy farm in Erath County for over 20 years. In 1970, Rene joined the Periodical Department of Tarleton State University Library, retiring 32 years later. After retirement, Rene enjoyed traveling with the Senior Travel Club and "playing with her flowers." Survivors include sons, James Edgar Purvis of Round Rock, Timothy Howard Purvis of Wautauga, daughter Patricia Anell Purvis of Fort Worth, 3 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren. Sisters Franciana Carter of Littlefield and Dorothy Amos of Brentwood, CA, sister-in-law, Wilma Mitchell of Bellingham, WA, and faithful K9 companion, Lucy, of the home. The family has requested donations be made to the Erath County Humane Society or the Foster's Home for Children in lieu of flowers.
