Alfred Henry Conlan

Alfred Henry Conlan, Sr. 65, of The Colony, Texas and formerly of Stephenville, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 12, 2008 at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Stephenville with Father Philip McNamara officiating. Interment will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Stephenville. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Monday before the service at St. Brendan's Catholic Church. Services under direction of Stephenville Funeral Home. Al was born August 5, 1942, in Clarksville to the late John and Sarah McCain Conlan. He married Nicole Shaun Daigle, on November 19, 1988 in Dallas. Al lived in Stephenville several years until he moved to The Colony in 2004. Al Conlan was a leader in his family and professional life. Al served many years in the Amarillo Police Department, and also served in the U. S. Army. He was a true man of service and impacted the lives of thousands of individuals and many many families. In 1986 Al served on the board of directors of Summer Sky, served as chairman of the board, and in 1996 he and his wife became sole owners of Summer Sky. He served as President of the substance abuse profession in the Alcohol and Drug Association for the State of Texas for two terms. During which time he was instrumental in achieving state licensure for alcohol and drug counselors. He also spearheaded the movement to increase professionalism of the substance abuse profession. He received numerous national and state awards as a small business owner, and especially in his work in chemical dependency. He remained as an honorary member of the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals until his death this past Thursday. Survivors include his wife, Shaun; son, Alfred H. Conlan, Jr. of San Marcos; daughter, Julie Jo Stuart of Kyle; grandchildren, Jesse Crisp and Zack Rhoades; two brothers, James Conlan of La Junta, CO and Robert Conlan of San Juan, TX; three sisters, Janette Miller of Wilmer, Janie Ferrell of Terrell and Cecelia White of Kissimmee, Florida. Al was very close to his wife's parents, Floyd and Marion Daigle; and his sister-in-law, Pam Burleigh Memorials may be made to St. Brendan's Catholic Church
